Yorkshire Status: Thinly distributed or restricted resident.

Early Tooth-striped is not a common moth in gardens but if trapping in birch or sallow woodland in April it can be surprisingly common for example 38 at light at Ellington Banks MOD on 9/4/2010. Numbers in Yorkshire appear to be stable and it is well distributed across the county apart from the east of VC61 where is a lack of suitable woodland. New moth trappers may find that it is surprisingly easy to mistake it for Mottled Grey, but Early Tooth-striped has an arched costa (slightly concave in Mottled Grey), it is not shiny, and the veins are not chequered.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: This species has expanded its range since the last list (YNU, 1970) when it was stated to be 'more local than formerly'. It has now been recorded from each vice-county.

Recorded in 112 (56%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1880.
Last Recorded in 2023.
