Yorkshire Status: Very common and widespread resident.

In 1907 Porritt wrote "occurs throughout the county and in some places plentifully". This is still the situation today, and it remains a common species all across Yorkshire in a variety of open habitats. Counts are frequently over 50 but occasionally can be even larger, the maximum being 506 in damp grassland at Studley Roger on 8/8/2003. Our population appears to be stable.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Apparently a species of fairly open situations (though not arable sites, PQW). Also quite often recorded in suburban areas, which probably resemble lightly wooded, parkland habitats. Quite frequently recorded in all five vice-counties.
