Yorkshire Status: Common and fairly widespread resident.

This curious-looking species is easy to identify. It is fairly widespread across the county but less common in western districts. It is a moth of poplar and willow woodland but is often seen in gardens. It occurs in two fairly equal broods. Although usually seen in small numbers, counts can sometimes reach double figures.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Formerly rather local in Yorkshire but now being quite widely recorded in vice-counties 61 to 64. There is only a single VC65 record.

Recorded in 143 (72%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1883.
Last Recorded in 2023.
