Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.

This is a birch-feeding species and it is common and widespread in good numbers across the county. It can be seen wherever birches grow. It is usually a brighter and more attractive species than Swallow Prominent and usually is easy to identify as the white wedge at the trailing corner of the wing is shorter and broader. Numbers in Yorkshire are healthy and stable, and trapping in birch woodland can result in quite large numbers at times, for example 77 at North Cliffe Wood on 6/8/2010. Like Swallow Prominent, it occurs in two broods, the second being largest.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Recorded fairly commonly in all five vice-counties in areas where birch is well established such as heathlands in the Vale of York. It is also the most frequent Prominent in Wharfedale (WNS).
