Yorkshire Status: Very rare migrant

We have just one record of this migrant species - at Spurn on 29/9/2006. What was likely to have been the same moth was trapped again the following night. 2006 was a particularly good migrant year, and many were reported to our south. There are well over 1000 records of this species nationally, so one might expect to have seen more than just the one, but most are concentrated in the south-west of England, and it rarely seems to visit the north. It could be confused with several other Wainscot species, but the pure white hindwing is a helpful pointer.
