Yorkshire Status: Rare migrant and possible resident.

In 1883, Porritt was aware of records from Doncaster, Huddersfield, Sheffield and York. It is not obvious whether these moths were part of the resident population or migrants. This is a resident species of oak woodland in the south of England and Wales, with an outlying population in the Morecambe Bay area. Elsewhere, records are considered migrants. The next confirmed records came during an influx of migrants into the country in 2009, with two moths at Spurn and one at Burley-in-Wharfedale in a four-day period in April. A further influx brought one to Nosterfield NR on 16/4/2014. The next record, on 15/4/2023, was at Ingleton in the west of VC64. This did not occur at a time of high migrant activity and will have been a wandering moth from the Morecambe Bay population, or perhaps we have a resident population hiding in the extreme west of Yorkshire!

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: Not definitely recorded since Porritt (1883-86) when there were records from Doncaster, Huddersfield, Sheffield (VC63) and York (VC61/62/64). On map 178 in MBGBI 9 a post 1960 record is shown for 10 km square TA07 (VC61) which is in error (PQW pers. comm.). There has been an unconfirmed record from the High Batts Nature Reserve near Ripon on 17.4.1987 (SPW), but unfortunately the specimen was not retained for examination.
