This unobtrusive species could easily be passed over as a micro. It was first recorded at Malham Tarn. The two records are dated "1954 - 58" and "1963". These records appear to have been unknown when Sutton and Beaumont was written. It subsequently turned up at Austwick Moss in 1989 and there have been several records in that area since. In 2019 it turned up at Strensall Common, and this was a major surprise. It is likely to have been hiding there undetected for many years. It is a moth of boggy moorland and heathland and may be hiding in other places in the county, particularly in the west. The Atlas tells us that its distribution has increased, but this might partially be due to better awareness.

Sutton & Beaumont, 1989: There is one record shown in 10 km square SD95 of map 219 in MBGBI 10. This has been traced to Malham Tarn (VC64), post 1948 (BCE pers. comm.), however, there is no official record of this species in the County. It is a possible site for this species and Rutherford (1971) mentioned it as a species which might be found in Yorkshire. Without further details and verification, however, this record cannot be accepted and the species should not be counted on the Yorkshire list.
