Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident.
In 1907 Porritt's summary was "of general occurrence". This is still true today, as it is found over much of the county. Larvae feed on a wide variety of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants, though it has a fondness for plants in wet areas, such as willowherbs and meadowsweet. This is where the biggest counts have occurred, eg 64 at Bishop Monkton Ings on 16/6/2006. It is usually an easy moth to identify, however the melanic f. liverana might fool the unwary. Recorded in 106 (53%) of 200 10k Squares. First Recorded in 1873. Last Recorded in 2024. Additional Stats |
