Yorkshire Status: Common and widespread resident

This species was first found in the UK in 1989 and moved north rapidly, being first found in Yorkshire in 1996. By 2001 it had been found in all five vice-counties and it is now widespread. Initially, all mines were from Pyracantha but within a few years it started to be reported on various other food plants. These include apple, hawthorn, whitebeam, pear, rowan and wild service tree. In other parts of the country is has been found on wild cherry, bird cherry and Cotoneaster. The mine is an upper-surface silvery blotch which may distort the leaf. It does not show the brown specks of P. corylifoliella and any frass grains are a paler yellow. There is also no "inner mine". Adults are common in garden light traps and are reasonably distinctive.
