Yorkshire Status: Abundant and widespread migrant.

This is one of the commonest migrant species, and can sometimes arrive in big influxes such as in 2016 when huge numbers arrived, with counts of several thousand seen by day and some counts of over 1,000 in light traps. It is not liked by the farming fraternity as the larvae can cause significant damage to brassica crops. Moths have been recorded in every month of the year, though the main arrival is from May onwards. Numbers tend to fluctuate a lot from year to year. This is usually a fairly easy moth to identify, but sometimes plain examples occur which can make it trickier. The foreward-pointing antennae and the shape of the moth however are usually a big help.

Recorded in 165 (83%) of 200 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1859.
